Lawrenceville is a city in Georgia and the county seat of Gwinnett County. Located 30 miles northeast of Atlanta, Lawrenceville had a population just under 29,000 as of the 2010 census.

Early History

Officially incorporated by the Georgia General Assembly in 1821, Lawrenceville is the second-oldest city in the state of Georgia. The city received its name from Commodore James Lawrence, a prominent figure in the Frigate Chesapeake during the War of 1812. Lawrence’s dying command was, “Don’t give up the ship!”

High Schools include Discovery High School, Central Gwinnett High School, Phoenix High School, Mountain View High School, Archer High School, and the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology. As for higher education, Lawrenceville also features Gwinnett Technical College and Georgia Gwinnett College.
